Update on Avelisquilts Latest Quilts

I thought I would do an update on my website today.  Even though you can see the newest items by clicking on the link called "What's New" to the left, I will post some pics so you can see right up front.

Before I get to the quilt pics, look what came off of my apples trees!

This was the first picking to thin out the apples because there were just too many for them to grow properly.  I made an apple preserve with these.

This past weekend I picked the ripe apples and made 4 apple pies.  They were gone very quickly.

Today I will be picking from the large tree in front and it has a large amount of apples.  After I pick them, I will post a new picture.

O.K. now here are some pics of the latest quilt kits on our website.

We have a Joyous Holiday wreath with or without the decorations.

Then I also designed a wall hanging from this wreath.

The wall hanging is available in two border colors.

Our website is undergoing some changes.  We are taking out the search engine -- didn't perform as well as expected and our "antique phone chat" is working and will be available in October.

Well that's all for now.

Waiting for Our New House!

Before we can start building our new house, we have to finish the new shed/store/cabin that we are working on now.

The building of the shed/store/cabin is very important for experience in learning how to build.  Since my husband and son are novice builders, this is practice for when they build our house.

I will keep you posted.

OUR NEW BRICK AND MORTAR STORE

We are building a new building from scratch!

The original purpose was to use as a storage shed.  Then it evolved into a brick and mortar store for Aveli's Quilts and General Store.  Then it evolved into a possible "Guest Cabin".

We are putting in a wood burning stove to keep the place warm.  It is very exciting to see something rising out of land where there was nothing before.

I will keep you posted.

New Pictures of Shed/Store/Cabin
Topic: New Shed

Sorry I haven't posted the updates on the shed, but time just seems to float by with all that is going on around here.

Remember the picture of the beginning of the Shed?  Well, here is the latest.

That's my youngest son and my husband working on the tin roof.  A tin roof is a must in this area because of the harsh weather and high winds.  Normal roofing tiles like the ones we used in California would deteriorate too fast or blow away here.

This is the roof after completion.

Well that's it for now.  Currently we are working on the insulation inside and drywall.  Next for installation is wood burning stove.  Will post pictures then.

ENJOYING ALL THE FLORA AND FAUNA
Mood:  incredulous

We like to take day trips to familiarize ourselves with the surrounding areas and sometimes we encounter some fabulous scenery or incredible sightings of animals!

Here are some of the pictures I took on one of these trips.

This deer was standing by the side of the road with her fawn.  It starting up the hill when I tried to get closer.  We were across the road from her.

On the way to Cimarron, we also encountered some beautiful scenery.

The two moms with their fawns were just eating the grass in front of this house.  I didn't notice that I had captured the sun rays also until later when I uploaded the pics to my computer.

I hope you have enjoyed these pictures and please come back.  I will be posting the update on the shed/store and any beautiful scenery or animals that we encounter here in the gorgeous mountains of New Mexico.

11-15-07 UPDATE ON AVELISQUILTS SHED/STORE
Mood:  happy

This is the latest on where we are with building the shed that will be our new store.

I am posting the pictures with a small explanation beneath each picture.

Above is the backhoe starting to level the area for the shed/store.

Here the frame for the foundation is laid out.

Time to pour the cement!

And this is the latest development in the building.

Come back again to check the progress.

What? The Septic Tank!!
Mood:  quizzical
Topic: Setbacks

When we first got here, we thought we would get started right away with the actual building of the shed and the house. . . . wrong!!!

Beside having to clean the trailor from top to bottom -- WHEW!!

We had a major setback with the septic tank.  What's a septic tank you  ask???

Well, since we have no city sewer (not in the city), we have this contraption called a septic tank.  It's kinda like the old fashioned outhouses, but it's underground.

Our bathroom was backing up and we were told that we would probably need our septic tank pumped.  Where is it? we asked.

No one knew where the septic tank was, not even the previous owner, who we contacted several times during the septic tank adventure.

So my husband and son started digging from the plumbing line access point in back of the trailor.  You know, that's the pipes that stick out of the ground in back of your house.  That's where the plumber sticks in his snake when you have backed up pipes.

Well, they dug and they dug and they dug!

Here is the result of all their digging . . .

They dug 4 feet down and more than 40 feet long!  Hard work by hand!  Smelly too!  It seems the line was cracked and there was a leak! Frown

Time to replace the pipes!

That rectangle in the forefront of the picture is the septic tank.  It is big enough to be a coffin or slightly bigger!

View From My Backyard at Sunset!
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Fishing

This is the beautiful view that I have from my backyard!

It is also the view as you come down the road towards our small trailor.

We are planning to build a house for ourselves and a small shop for Avelisquilts and General Store.

We should be starting in a couple of weeks.

The scenery here is absolutely gorgeous all around us.  We are situated in a small meadow with mountains surrounding us.  There is a creek to go fishing just around the corner from our location.  You could even walk there.

My daughter, daughter in law, son and grand daughter went fishing and as you can see in the following picture they caught a few!  It was their first fish and they made a great dinner.

The mountains you see behind them are on the left side of our trailor.  Like I said, beauty all around us.

That's all for now, have a great month and keep quilting!
